National Forest Service awards $1.7m to small business in New Mexico and Arizona
In New Mexico and Arizona, the National Forest Service has awarded $1.7 million to small businesses to expand their use of waste wood. The companies will use the funds to produce or process products using biomass for fuel reduction projects on National Forest land.
The Arizona companies chosen to receive funding are Cooley Forest Products, Log and Timberworks, and San Carlos Apache Timber Products. The New Mexico companies include J.L. Shavings and Restoration Solutions. The funding requires a 20 percent matching of funds from each company.
Cooley Forest Products received $350,000 to develop a mobile chipping canter that produces cants in the woods destined directly for the market. The company will work with the Coconino, Kaibab and Apache-Sigreaves National Forests in Arizona and the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico.
