Japan biomass consumption rises tremendously
In Japan, March’s biomass consumption is said to have risen 52.8% year on year to 171,373 metric tons. Consumption by large-scale utilities, who usually co-fire biomass with coal, rose 16.4% while wholesale users such as paper plants increased their demand by 55.8%.
Total biomass demand for the first quarter of 2010 was 489,224 tons, up 21.4% from 403,066 tons last year.
