Obama Administration to quicken approval process for green patents
In Washington, the Obama administration said it would quicken the review process for “green” patents, via a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office commitment to reduce the patent review time from 40 months to 12 months. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke told the New York Time s that “By ensuring that many new products will receive patent protection more quickly, we can encourage our brightest innovators to invest needed resources in developing new technologies and help bring those technologies to market more quickly.”
The PTO said that 25,000 pending applications would be eligible for the program, but said that it would not hire additional employees for the first, pilot phase of the program.
